Blocking Goalkeepers at Corners
Does it work?

I'm sure it must do now and then but I can't remember ever seeing it. In my experience it is more likely to end in a free kick to the keeper and even a disallowed goal.

I'm sure those with better memories than me will tell me about times it has worked for some clubs, but is it just not a bit of a idiotic tactic if it is more likely to end up as a free kick?

As I understand the rules if the blocker just stands his ground and doesn't attempt to go for the ball and the keeper does but is blocked, that is obstruction isn't it? So what is the point of it?

Snide football

Yeah, but Nolan standing in front of the keeper not only stops him coming for the ball but also takes up another defender who then needs to mark Nolan.

Personally I think its a bit of a scummy way to hamper the opponents but there you go.

Detestable tactic from a detestable manager.

Snidey sums it up perfectly for me.

Put it in the same bracket as keepers blatantly time wasting - a Pulis type tactic

Re: Blocking Goalkeepers at Corners
mourinho got away with mentioning it as a viable tactic in a barclaycard advert some years ago. But he is a scumbag so no surprise there.

Many would cry themselves to sleep if this tactic was employed by our opposition.

Those people choose to ignore Nolan undertaking our snide managers tactics to cheat the game.

Oh for crying out loud Nicey, I didn't want this to be a thread of Nolan and Allardyce bashing!!

Pssst.... I did really

The Angels are leading the charge with the Nolan bashing - how things have changed.

Obviously I know that they always questioned Kev and in no way have done a massive UTurn

Funnily enough I mentioned that on Saturday while having a rant at useless Nolan. I said it never made the slightest difference or helped us score. But I don't know whether that's correct or not?

Anyone remember us scoring due to Nolan blocking the keeper? I do remember occasions where shots hit Nolan so he is effectively blocking goals being scored....

& many more wouldn't, certainly not me.

Yeah it wouldn't make many cry. Most would find it pathetic though I reckon

Re: Blocking Goalkeepers at Corners
It's a legit tactic & part of the game as many goal keepers panic .

Certainly I agree that it's overplayed by Nolan/ BFS & has produced little positive results this season. Goal's from corners haven't come from this tactic , not this season that I can remember at any rate.

RC

I can't recall ever seeing a keeper panic. As a keeper myself I love it when a player does it to me as I know I have a massive chance of winning a free kick.

I've never let in a goal in that situation that I can recall. Had half a dozen disallowed mind.

And more than I care to remember from standard corners

Re: Blocking Goalkeepers at Corners
Most modern coaches don't do it as it really serves no purpose. The keeper will just get a foul if impeded.

Rather than wasting his time doing that, why not try and actually head the ball n the fucking net

Re: Blocking Goalkeepers at Corners
I've seen loads panic & want to get in a fight with the player in front of him rather than concentrate on what's happening with the ball.

Re: Blocking Goalkeepers at Corners
I don't think I have ever seen a goal as a direct result in someone doing what Nolan does...

Re: Blocking Goalkeepers at Corners
Good point about just trying to score Penners - but that will often involve jumping and Nolan struggles with that.

Did you see on Saturday when he went up for a ball with a Liverpool player and the Liverpool player won it on his chest? It was hilarious*

*mildly amusing
